While You Were Wondering About India's First Rio Medal, Virat Kohli's Team Just Won A Test Series In West Indies

If you're still wondering when will India get their first medal at the Rio Olympics, this news might just cheer you up a little. Roughly 4,500 kms up north from Rio de Janeiro where the Indian athletes are vying to make history, the Indian cricket team has just won a Test series in the West Indies.

India have managed to beat West Indies by 237 runs on Day five of the third Test at Gros Islet to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series with one match still to go.

For Virat Kohli, it is his first overseas (outside of Asia) Test series win as captain and third-straight Test series win. He has also achieved a feat which no Indian captain was able to till now - that is to win two Tests in a series in the Caribbean.

This is India's third consecutive series win in the Caribbean, following wins under Rahul Dravid in 2006 (1-0) and MS Dhoni in 2011 (1-0).

At the Darren Sammy Stadium, India were put into bat by the hosts and hundreds from R Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha dug them out of trouble. Replying to India's 353 all out, West Indies were bundled out for 225 when Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 5 for 33. With a 128-run lead, India declared their second innings at 217/7 and set the hosts 346 to win on the final day. but the Indian bowlers worked as a wolfpack to hunt the opposition down and cleaned them up for 108. 
India, who are currently ranked second in the ICC Test rankings, now just need to win the final Test at Antigua to claim the No. 1 spot.
Brief Scores: India 353 (Ashwin 118, Saha 104) and 217/7d (Rahane 78; Miguel Cummins 6/48) beat West Indies 225 (Brathwaite 64; Bhuvneshwar 5/33) and 108 (Darren Bravo 59; Mohd Shami 3/15) by 237 runs.
